Victorian State Election 2022

The Victorian State Election will take place on Saturday 26 November 2022. All eligible Victorians on the electoral roll are required to vote.

In-person voting will not be available at the Australian Consulate-General, Ho Chi Minh City.

Voters in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi can apply online for a postal vote from Wednesday 2 November which will be emailed to you. Visit the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) website for more information.

You can return your postal vote directly to the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) using the envelope provided, or drop off to the Australian Consulate-General by 4:00pm on Tuesday 22 November 2022.

To drop off your postal vote, please visit the Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City between Monday 14 November 2022 to Tuesday 22 November 2022 from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 2:00 to 4:00pm (excluding weekends). Postal votes cannot be dropped off at the Embassy in Hanoi.

Postal votes returned directly to the VEC in Australia must be witnessed and posted on or before 2:00pm (HCMC local time) on Saturday 26 November and be received by the VEC no later than 2:00pm (HCMC local time) on Friday 2 December.

Is voting compulsory for Victorians in Vietnam?

Voting in the Victorian State Election is not compulsory for voters overseas. If you’re not able to vote, you will need to let the VEC know by submitting an ‘away from Victoria’ form. Find out more: https://www.vec.vic.gov.au/voting/2022-state-election/away-during-the-election

How early before the election are postal votes sent out?

Voters will receive their ballots to the email address and mobile phones they nominate on registration within 24 hours of registration.

When do requests for postal votes close?

Requests for postal votes will close on 23 November 2022. The Victorian Electoral Commission strongly encourages you to apply for a postal vote and return the completed ballot as soon as possible to ensure there is enough time for it to be received by the VEC before 2:00pm (HCMC local time) on 2 December.
