The Australian Government has demonstrated its strong, ongoing commitment to its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, through an increase in Official Development Assistance.
The Australia’s 2026-2027 Budget allocates a total of AUD 98.3 million for Australia’s development partnership with Vietnam, increased from a total of AUD 96.6 million in 2025-26.
Australia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms Gillian Bird, welcomed the announcement:
“In a time of global uncertainty, Australia is Vietnam’s trusted and reliable partner,” Ambassador Bird said.
“Our development program in Vietnam is supporting Vietnam’s inclusive, sustainable economic growth, and helping to build a peaceful, stable and prosperous region for us all.”
Australia has been a trusted, longstanding development partner to Vietnam, providing over $3 billion in development assistance since 1973.
Australia’s current development partnership is supporting Vietnam to achieve its goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045 through investments in economic growth, human resource development, climate action and gender equality and disability inclusion.
Overall in 2026-27, Australia will invest AUD 5.2 billion in Official Development Assistance – an increase 2.2 per cent from 2025-26.
This includes an estimated AUD 1.35 billion in Official Development Assistance to Southeast Asia – an increase of $73.6 million on the 2025-26 Budget.
