Australia is providing an additional AUD 800,000 in humanitarian assistance to Vietnam to support communities in central Vietnam affected by Typhoons Fengshen and Kalmaegi. This adds to the AUD 3 million already announced to assist those impacted by Typhoons Bualoi and Matmo.
Typhoon Kalmaegi has tragically killed 6 people in Vietnam, after weeks of record rainfall and intense flooding in central Vietnam which killed 50 and destroyed homes, businesses and livelihoods.
Australia is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and destruction.
Australia’s assistance will be delivered through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership, in close collaboration with the Government of Vietnam. Our contribution will ensure the most vulnerable, including women, children and people with disabilities can access lifesaving assistance.
Australia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, H.E. Gillian Bird said:
"As a Comprehensive Strategic Partner, we have responded quickly to Vietnam’s call for support. We are committed to working hand-in-hand with local partners to ensure our support reaches those who need it most.”
“I want to extend my heartfelt sympathies to everyone impacted by recent flooding and typhoons in Central Vietnam.”
“Australia is committed to offering support where it’s needed most. We’re working with partners to provide assistance and help communities recover and rebuild.”
