Hanoi, 2 June 2025 - the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Vietnam Banks Association (VNBA), marking a significant step forward in enriching fintech collaboration between the two countries.
Organised by Austrade Vietnam, the MoU signing ceremony was followed by a thought leadership session discussing fintech partnership opportunities between Australia and Vietnam. The event welcomed Mr. Jonathan Saw, Australian Trade and Investment Commissioner to Vietnam, representatives from the Vietnam Banks Association and the Vietnam Fintech Club, as well as Australian and Vietnamese business leaders, industry associations and institutions.
This MoU focuses on two main goals – developing a robust fintech ecosystem as well as facilitating bilateral trade and investment in the financial services and technology sectors. The agreement establishes a framework to foster knowledge exchange, support fintech delegations and business missions, academic partnerships, strategic programs, while supporting the attracting of more investment between both countries. Australia and Vietnam are partnering to leverage their respective strengths, with leading Australian tech companies increasingly entering and expanding in Vietnam’s vibrant, tech-savvy market.
“This framework for collaboration will help connect Australian fintech innovators with Vietnamese financial institutions, support startups and scaleups, and encourage joint efforts to develop secure, inclusive and modern financial solutions,” said Mr. Saw. Australia, he added, brings to the table a mature financial services industry complemented with advanced technologies and views Southeast Asia as central to its national interests, with digital economy and financial services as priority sectors under Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040.
Some future activities under the MoU include a Landing Pad Vietnam Fintech and Cybersecurity immersion programs next year, and through these continued partnerships and strategic programs – Australia and Vietnam are committed towards lead digital transformation efforts together.
