Hanoi 18 October – Last night, the Australian Embassy in Hanoi hosted Taste of Australia’s Big BBQ event amidst the historic grandeur of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long to celebrate Australia’s world class food, beverages and culture in Vietnam. This year's event was more than just a culinary celebration; it was a symbol of the deepening bond between Australia and Vietnam, a friendship now solidified by the recent elevation of our relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
Imagine the iconic Long Bien Bridge, a symbol of Hanoi's resilience and history, reaching out to meet the Sydney Harbour Bridge, an architectural marvel representing Australia's vibrant spirit. This is the image that captures the essence of the event – two nations, connected by bridges both literal and metaphorical, coming together to celebrate shared values and a bright future.
At the Taste of Australia’s Big BBQ 2024, participants had opportunities to enjoy a variety of authentic Australian barbecue dishes, expertly prepared by Chef Tommy Pham and the team at the Daewoo Hotel Hanoi. Dishes were complemented by a selection of premium Australian wines from the more than twenty Australian wineries represented.
Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski stated, “The Taste of Australia’s Big BBQ is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our shared tradition of coming together over food and drink, while strengthening the ties between Australia and Vietnam. The Big BBQ is special, but all Hanoians can enjoy Australian produce whenever they wish: from restaurants and supermarkets around the city. Or when they visit Australia!”.
Chef Tommy Pham, known for his innovative approach to traditional Vietnamese cooking, added, “I’m thrilled to showcase Australia’s vibrant BBQ culture. This event reflects not just our food but also the spirit of community and sharing that defines Australian culture. I’m grateful I have the chance to bring a taste of Australia to Hanoi.”
The Taste of Australia Big BBQ 2024 was more than just a culinary delight; it was a celebration of the enduring friendship between Australia and Vietnam. As both nations embark on this new chapter in their relationship, events like this serve as a powerful reminder of the shared journey, common aspirations, and the bright future that lies ahead.
