Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan will travel to Singapore, Vietnam, Republic of Korea, Japan and the United States of America to strengthen Australia’s trading relationships and promote investment in Australia.
These countries are significant bilateral partners, representing around a quarter of Australia’s exports of goods and services. Mr Tehan’s itinerary will include:
- The third Ministerial Economic Dialogue (Tokyo)
- Meetings with his ministerial and trade counterparts including
- Singapore Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong
- Vietnam Minister for Industry and Trade H.E. Nguyen Hong Dien, and Minister for Planning and Investment H.E. Nguyen Chi Dung
- Japan Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kajiyama Hiroshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs Motegi Toshimitsu and Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy Nishimura Yasutoshi
- Republic of Korea Minister for Trade Yoo Myung-hee
- Ambassador Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative
- Promoting international investment in Australia and meeting with Australian businesses and tourism industry representatives.
“Australia’s success as a trading nation is built on the strength of our relationships with our trading partners,” Mr Tehan said.
“Trade is mutually beneficial to countries, it enhances relationships, builds trust and creates jobs.
“I will be promoting Australia as a reliable producer of high-quality products as well as a safe destination for investment. There are opportunities to further engage with our trading partners on emerging issues, such as digital trade and standards.
“I will also champion support for a functioning global rules-based trading system that is vital to the economic prosperity of our region.”
Mr Tehan will travel for two weeks followed by two weeks quarantine.
