Applications now open for the Australian Government’s Direct Aid Program 2012-13

HANOI - The Australian Embassy in Hanoi is now accepting applications for 2012-13 Direct Aid Program (DAP) projects north of and including Thua Thien Hue Province. The cut-off for applications is 5:00 pm on Friday 31 August 2012.

DAP provides grants for small-scale development projects aimed at alleviating hardship and advancing development outcomes in Vietnam’s disadvantaged communities. DAP funding is available to individuals, community groups, NGOs, academic institutions, libraries, museums, and other organisations engaged in development activities in Vietnam on a not for profit basis.

Australia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Hugh Borrowman, encourages interested communities to apply: “Through DAP, the Australian Embassy provides practical and effective support to regional communities in northern Vietnam in many important areas like poverty elimination, education, health, disabilities, environment and sanitation”.

In 2011-12, the Australian Embassy supported 13 projects across 09 provinces in northern Vietnam: Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Hai Duong, and Hanoi.

DAP funding is in addition to Australia’s significant bilateral aid program for Vietnam. Overall, Australia will provide an estimated AUD150 million in Official Development Assistance to Vietnam in the 2012-2013 financial year.

DAP guidelines, application forms and advice on how to submit an application can be found on the Australian Embassy website at http://www.vietnam.embassy.gov.au/hnoi/cooperation.html.
