Australian Government supports International Anti-Corruption Day
The Australian Government strongly supports International Anti-Corruption Day, observed annually on 9 December.
International Anti-Corruption Day provides an opportunity to highlight the serious global problem of corruption, a problem that has a serious impact on individuals, businesses and communities. Corruption remains one of the main barriers to achieving poverty reduction, economic growth, human security, and social development.
As a signatory to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, the Australian Government works nationally and globally to raise awareness among Australian business of the laws and principles that apply to their overseas activities. The Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Allaster Cox, said “Corruption discourages investment, distorts markets, and diverts often scarce resources for important community services, such as schools, hospitals and roads.”
