Australian Government supports vocational training for Hai Duong women
The Australian Government will support vocational training for disadvantaged and disabled women in Hai Duong province via a grant to the “8 March” Women’s Centre. Australian Ambassador to Vietnam H.E. Mr Allaster Cox presented a cheque for the project to Ms Hoang Thi Binh, Director, “8 March” Women’s Centre, during a visit to Hai Duong on 10 March on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The VND143 million grant from the Australian Embassy’s Direct Aid Program will provide vocational training in handicrafts to 30 disadvantaged and disabled women. Following completion of the training course, the recipients will take up work in a production centre, thereby providing sustainable livelihoods to them and their families.
In presenting a cheque to Ms Hoang Thi Binh, Director of the “8 March” Women’s Centre, Australian Ambassador H.E. Mr Allaster Cox said: “We welcome the opportunity to continue our long-standing cooperation with the Hai Duong “8 March” Women’s Centre. The Centre has shown its commitment to improving the lives of women and families in Hai Duong province through vocational training and community support programs.”
Ms Binh welcomed the commitment of funds: “We thank the Australian Government for its ongoing support of the Centre’s work. This grant will help us deliver skills and confidence to disadvantaged and disabled women in Hai Duong.”
The Hai Duong “8 March” Women’s Centre is a community organisation under the management of the Hai Duong Women’s Union. The Australian Government and Australian Union Aid Abroad have previously supported “8 March” Women’s Centre projects delivering vocational training disadvantaged and disabled children and programs to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.
