Australian Government and New Energy Nexus Vietnam held a networking event on Energy and Climate Innovation in Hanoi

Hanoi, 28 June Over 70 representatives from startups, businesses, and public and private institutions in the climate and energy sectors attended the Climate and Energy Innovation Networking Event Innovation co-hosted by the Australian Government and New Energy Nexus Vietnam (NEXVN) in Hanoi.

Australia and Vietnam recently upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which includes a dedicated pillar to climate, energy and environment issues – a first for Australia. Australia continues to strongly support Vietnam to tackle the challenges of climate change. In 2023, the Australian Government announced substantial packages of support for climate change adaptation in the Mekong Delta ($A94.5 million over 10 years) and to support energy transition and climate tech (a pillar of the new $A90 million Aus4Growth program and $A30 million for the Australian Development Investments (ADI), and Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG)).

At the event NEXVN provided an overview of challenges in the energy and climate innovation sectors, identifying key challenges related to market access and competition, internal management, human resources, and climate change.

Climate and energy innovation businesses at the event, such as Vfarm,Cocovie, Edeec and IoTeamVN, shared their stories and views on the challenges. Vfarm and Cocovie are currently supported by the Australian Government through Deltaccelerate, an accelerator run by NEXVN and dedicated to women-led enterprises in climate change adaptation in the Mekong Delta.  Key stakeholders in the sectors, including Coalition for Climate Entrepreneurship (CCE), the World Wide Fund for Nature Vietnam (WWF-Vietnam), and Clime Capital, also discussed their strategic priorities, investment policies, and ongoing and future programs.

The event has created a platform for businesses to share their insights and practical experiences in resolving climate and energy innovation challenges and strengthen the connections among stakeholders in the ecosystem. “It successfully achieved its goal of connecting and sharing the challenges that startups in the energy and climate sectors face,” said Ms Tran Thi Phuong Thao, Country Director, New Energy Nexus Vietnam.

“We are really excited to see the participation of such diverse and innovative organizations, experts, investors, and especially energy and climate startups today. As it is these organizations who are part of a dynamic ecosystem, the Australian Government is proud to support the development of such an ecosystem at the cutting edge of Vietnam’s energy transition,” said Mr Benjamin Davis, First Secretary – Economic, Australian Embassy in Vietnam, who represented the Australian Government at the event.
