Jodi West - ANZ

Jodi West

Country Head for ANZ Vietnam (Currently President Director of ANZ Indonesia)

"I strongly believe that the Bank’s support of customers helps to fuel economic growth in Vietnam."

Jodi West, as the Country Head of ANZ Vietnam since 2018, has been at the forefront of the bank's operations during a period of significant transformation and growth. ANZ was one of the first foreign banks to venture into Vietnam (in 1993) following the Đổi Mới reforms, and under Jodi West's leadership, it has continued to evolve alongside Vietnam's rapidly changing economy.

In 2017, ANZ made a strategic shift from retail to institutional banking, a move that Jodi believes aligns with both ANZ's global strategy and Vietnam's economic progression. As Vietnam's economy diversifies and grows, ANZ - one of the largest banks in Australia now primarily serves multinational companies, financial institutions, and large local corporates. Jodi sees this as an opportunity for ANZ to contribute to Vietnam's "economic miracle," driven by the influx of global manufacturers to the country.

Jodi believes that ANZ’s contribution to Vietnam’s economy extends beyond the Bank’s Institutional focus.  By supporting companies that are investing in Vietnam, particularly in manufacturing and local supply chains, ANZ is supporting job creation and economic growth.

Moreover, Jodi recognises the potential of Vietnam's burgeoning technology sector. She believes that the country's growing capabilities in software engineering and other high-tech fields present exciting opportunities for both Vietnamese and Australian businesses.

Jodi West also acknowledges the changing consumer landscape in Vietnam. As urbanisation increases and the middle class expands, new consumer opportunities are emerging. This shift in purchasing habits signals potential growth in sectors such as construction, real estate, and discretionary goods.

Under Jodi West's leadership, ANZ has also committed to various community initiatives in Vietnam, ranging from supporting autistic children to undertaking environmental projects. These initiatives not only strengthen the bond between ANZ's staff and the local community but also foster goodwill between Australia and Vietnam.

As we celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam, Jodi West's leadership at ANZ exemplifies the significant role businesses can play in fostering international ties. Her vision for ANZ's role in Vietnam's economic journey, coupled with her commitment to community initiatives, underscores the bank's contribution to the strengthening of Australia-Vietnam relations.
