Australia Awards Scholarships 2016 applications now open online

“Australia’s commitment to development cooperation with Vietnam is ongoing and reflects our long-standing relationship. By helping to stimulate the private sector, upskill the workforce, and support inclusive growth, we will contribute to our shared, overarching goal of promoting prosperity and reducing poverty in Vietnam,” said Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr Hugh Borrowman.

“On that note, I am happy to declare that applications for the 2016 round of the Australia Awards Scholarships for Vietnamese to study in Australia at Masters level are open online.”

Local government and central agency officials; staff from Vietnamese NGOs and provincial enterprises; university and college lecturers and researchers are encouraged to apply.

Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.

Australia Awards Scholarships are for full-time study in Australia. Each scholarship includes all tuition fees, living allowance, airfares and health insurance. The awardees will study at Masters level at a university of their choice in a diverse range of key development areas such as gender, disability, human resource development, infrastructure, governance and economic reform.

Applicants with a disability and applicants from disadvantaged rural areas are given priority in this scholarship program. Out of 100 awards offered last year, seven awards were given to applicants with disabilities and 18 to applicants from disadvantaged rural areas.

Australia has been a leading provider of government scholarships to Vietnam.  There are currently over 5,300 Australia Awards alumni from Vietnam who have graduated from Australian universities under Australian Government funded scholarships programs dating back to the 1970s.

Applications are open from 1 February until 31 March 2016. Awardees are expected to begin their studies in Australia in 2017.
