Australia-Vietnam Aviation Workshop, 24-26 June 2015

The Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority, the Brisbane Airport Corporation and six leading Australian aviation technology, services and training organizers led an aviation workshop from 24-26 June in Ho Chi Minh City to share their knowledge and expertise with their Vietnamese counterparts.

“We are confident that through the sharing of information and collaboration, Vietnam’s key aviation stakeholders will gain a better understanding of the Australian aviation industry and consider Australia as their preferred country for aviation technologies, services, education and training,” said Australian Ambassador HE Mr Hugh Borrowman.

The aviation industry in Vietnam makes an important contribution to the Vietnamese economy but as it continues to grow, will also exert extra pressure on airport, air traffic control infrastructure and the highly specialized aviation labour force.

Australia’s enviable aviation safety record and strengths in design, research and development, master planning, engineering, construction and IT have been successful in building airports and associated urban developments in Australia and globally. Australian expertise has been incorporated in many of the world’s major airports and cities such as in London, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Dubai.

By transferring some of this experience to Vietnam, Australia can help Vietnam improve air safety, productivity and efficiency.

This close co-operation between our two nations will also lead to increased trade and investment between our two aviation industries.

“Many complementarities exist between the Vietnamese and Australian aviation industries and there are many opportunities for greater collaboration,” said Senior Trade Commissioner Sean Riley in addressing the workshop participants.

The aviation workshop follows on from discussions that took place during the visit to Australia in March by the Prime Minister of Vietnam, HE Mr Nguyen Tan Dung.

The workshop was funded by the Australian Government and aviation industry, working in partnership with Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Airports Corporation of Vietnam, Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and JetStar Australia.
